Develop, implement and support current and future technologies deployed in Hbi’s global network infrastructure. Work with Hbi’s IT team, Business customers and external vendors to develop and enhance network standards for network security, to provide seamless connectivity on the Hbi Intranet for all facilities, to investigate and implement communications cost savings, and to evaluate and promote leading-edge network technologies. The ultimate goal is to achieve the best possible services at the lowest cost, and to assist the corporation in achieving and maintaining a low-cost status over its competition.


Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Working in a team environment to provide support to the Hbi Global Network and facilities 24x7x365.
  • Maintaining and supporting of all data communication systems (routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, proxy, radius, URL blocking & caching, virtual private network (VPN) platforms, and wireless platforms) and some voice devices if applicable. As defined this is access from any communication system to any other communications system internal or external to the Hbi global network.
  • Participating in the after hours Network team on-call rotation.
  • Working with the end user or Local IT in diagnosing and correcting problems resulting from component failure or normal use of the Hbi global network.
  • Providing specialized technical expertise in researching and resolving complex problems in the network, which may involve coordination of hardware vendor and telephone company repair personnel.
  • Monitoring of systems for error reporting to insure pro-active maintenance.
  • Assisting in other administrative tasks related to daily operation of the network (updating inventory, problem tracking, equipment ordering, keeping network diagrams and documentation up to date, etc.).
  • Installing and maintaining hardware and software components related to operation of the Hbi global network.
  • Network related adds, moves, and changes.
  • Maintaining network labeling of devices to insure an organized environment.
  • Providing configuration support and training for users of computer network hardware and software where applicable.
  • Assisting in communication related projects as instructed by senior staff members.
  • Assisting or overseeing facility cabling projects from small installations to large redesigns.
  • Assisting in new hardware, software and diagnostic tool product evaluations.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry offerings and their potential uses within the business.
  • Assisting in analysis of traffic statistics and trends to develop metrics for the data and voice networks.


Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • BS in Computer Science or Equivalent.
  • Minimum 3+ years in voice and data communications, vendor management, and networking.
  • Working knowledge of routers and networking concepts.
  • Working knowledge of routing protocols.
  • Knowledgeable in LAN network Technologies.
  • Knowledgeable in WAN network Technologies.
  • Knowledgeable of domestic and international communications providers, and their trouble/ escalation processes.
  • Knowledgeable in VoIP and voice telecommunications technology
  • Knowledgeable of data compression/quality of service technology.
  • Knowledgeable in diagnostic tools and techniques for troubleshooting LAN’s and WAN’s including traffic capture and analysis tools.
  • Basic project management experience.
  • Customer service attitude.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with the following technologies a plus:
    • Cisco LAN switching, wireless networking, PRIME, etc.
    • Meru wireless networking
    • Riverbed Steelhead
    • Avaya phone systems
    • Solarwinds products
    • Packet capture and analysis tools
    • Video conferencing technologies
    • Enterprise datacenter experience
    • Certification achieved in primary platform responsibility areas
