  • Overview

Founded in 1995, Alternative is a fashion lifestyle brand best known for comfort, simplicity and our commitment to sustainability. Through innovative apparel design and involvement in purposeful causes, we aim to connect people, inspire creativity and catalyze change.

When you work at Alternative, you join a community, not a department. Alternative is a company of entrepreneurs who are driven by passion, not job descriptions, where you can contribute to something you're proud to wear--on your body and your résumé.

Alternative Apparel is looking for an experienced designer to join the Design team. The Assistant Apparel Designer is responsible for combining market knowledge and trend research into creating original and innovative designs that embrace the Alternative brand aesthetic. This role will report to the Design Manager. Candidate needs to have at least one year of professional experience working in either the apparel or accessories design industry. We are looking for someone innovative, passionate, and detail oriented who thrives in a fast-paced environment with proficient skills in Adobe Illustrator and Creative Suite.

    • Research concept, trends, and color under the direction of the Design team.
    • Create flat front & back sketches for designs in Adobe Illustrator.
    • Color all flat sketches to create line sheets & keep them updated throughout the development process as changes occur.
    • Work with internal teams to communicate changes and updates to the line.
    • Prepare presentation materials for design meetings.

    • Very strong CAD (Illustrator) skills
    • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
    • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
    • BA Degree in Design or comparable field
    • Adaptable, flexible with a strong attention to details
    • Must show outstanding initiative and work well within a team environment
    • Ability to sketch by hand, adapting to the Alternative sketch style, as well as use Adobe Illustrator to create technically correct & stylized flats
    • Advanced in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
    • Understanding of garment construction
    • Experience creating BOM’s is a plus
    • Experience creating prints in repeat, pitch sheets and production ready artwork is a plus
